A No-Credit Check Guide to Buying Used Electronics or Appliances

A No-Credit Check Guide to Buying Used Electronics or Appliances A No-Credit Check Guide to Buying Used Electronics or Appliances A No-Credit Check Guide to Buying Used Electronics or AppliancesStay within budget and get the best-quality product for your money.Buying used electronics is a great way to save money on expensive, but often essential products like cell phones and laptops. Just look at the price of iPhones: A certified refurbished iPhone 7 can be purchased for around $250 while a brand new iPhone 7 starts at $450 (if there isn’t an option to trade in an older device for a discount). That’s $200 you can save on a phone that will work as good as new.Buying used is also good for the environment. It contributes less to electronic waste.Unfortunately, there are definitely some downfalls with buying a used electronic device. Will it work for very long before you find yourself needing a new one? Will it work at all? Used electronics don’t always come with warranties or other protective measures that can ensure you aren’t wasting your money. This guide will go over some of the ways you can increase y our luck when buying used electronics without having to break the bank of go into debt.Research carefullyBuying a used electronic device or appliance can be worth the money if you’re buying an item that still has a lot of life left. Buying an item that’s on its last legs can end up being a waste of time and money. That’s why it’s important to research the brands and item models that you have an interest in purchasing before splurging on a purchase. If a particular laptop, for example, has a reputation for not lasting much longer than a year, then it would not be a safe bet to buy it used. If a phone battery tends to stop holding a charge after a short period of time, that might not be a good buy either.Sturdy, high-quality brands of laptops (or high-end models from other brands) might turn up some good used options. Look for reviews of durable, long-lasting choices and center your search on those items.Have patienceIf you decide you want to buy a particular brand or type of i tem â€" for example, you decide you can’t live without the latest iPhone, then have patience with finding the right item in good condition. Also wait until you have the money to pay for it. There’s no use taking out a personal   loan to make a purchase that should be saving you money.Having patience involves another benefit â€" if you wait for the latest model in a lineup to come out, then likely the older versions will go down in price. A little research will often yield information on when a company plans to release the newest version of their laptop, camera, or phone.Buy refurbished  Refurbished electronics are one of the safest ways to buy used. “Refurbished” essentially means that a third party has ensured the item works and has fixed any problems with it, if necessary. Refurbished electronics also often come with some kind of protection. If it doesn’t work or has issues, it is usually returnable.Places where you can shop for refurbished electronics include Best Buy a nd Gazelle. Sometimes manufacturer websites, such as Apple, will also offer refurbished electronics. If choosing to purchase a refurbished item, make sure to read the seller’s policies around refurbished electronics so you know what you can expect if its not functioning as expected. One of the downsides of refurbished electronics is that they are more expensive than normal used items. The extra expense you’re paying for is the price for having an expert evaluate and fix up the item. It’s also the price of being able to return a faulty item.Do a test runIf you choose to save even more money by buying a used item directly from the previous owner, do plenty of research into how to test the functionality in that particular model. Don’t buy the item if the seller doesn’t let you test it. For example, if purchasing a used camera, you might want to check that the sensors are clean and the zoom works as expected. If buying a used iPhone, you might want to check the condition of the battery. For any electronic, the external condition says a lot. An item that’s beat up and has scratches probably isnt in great shape on the inside, either.Avoid scamsIf you decide to buy a used item from Craigslist or Facebook Marketplace, be sure to avoid scams, such as sellers who are trying to pawn off a fake product. Before handing over the item, inspect the item and ensure that you’re buying the real thing. You should also be sure to use payment methods that are secure. If you use cash or Venmo, you will have no protection if you discover later you were sold a bad electronic. PayPal, however, has consumer protection. If you discover you’ve been scammed, you have the ability to report the seller and fight to get your money back.Similarly, credit cards usually have more liability protection than debit cards. You will have more protection if you need to report a charge after purchasing a faulty item.If you decide to buy on a website like eBay, then use the usual common sens e to avoid scams.Check seller feedback to ensure that prior buyers got what they expected to receive in a timely manner.Keep all communication through eBay so that you have an official record of the interaction.Read item descriptions carefully so that you understand the condition of the item you’re buying.Additionally, eBay has a full list of ways to stay safe when using their website. Craigslist also has information about avoiding scams while using their website. This advice also applies to tools like Facebook Marketplace. The rewardHopefully this guide helps arm you as you enter the big, confusing world of used electronics and appliances. Making a great used electronic purchase will be rewarding â€" both as a result of the hunt, and as your bank account thanks you.

Is Technology Killing Empathy - 1421 Words

Is Technology Killing Empathy Andrew Boyd, author of the book Daily Afflictions: The Agony of Being Connected to Everything in The Universe writes that, â€Å"Compassion hurts. When you feel connected to everything, you also feel responsible for everything. And you cannot turn away. Your destiny is bound with the destinies of others. You must either learn to carry the Universe or be crushed by it. You must grow strong enough to love the world, yet empty enough to sit down at the same table with its worst horrors.† This quote is relative in the modern world for many reasons, but the main reason for its relevancy is the question that it raises in today’s culture, is technology killing empathy? Where does one appropriately draw the line between becoming so involved that it hinders personal lives or brands one as callous? I loved it. I loved it Review Paper Essay on I loved it. I loved it In a series of next weekend, I wanted to read something nice light. Finely woven story with no beginning and no end. Piercingly sad, but at the same time a beautiful book about love. Among the truly broad-based range of products, my choice fell on the book by Anna Gavalda I loved her. I loved him. And just say, that work not only coincided with my wishes, but also surpassed them. But first things first. If you start your analysis directly from the text, as such, all the structural parts are connected to each other is quite logical. Each subsequent description smoothly follows from the previous one. In this book, two stories are closely intertwined.  «I loved her. History of Pierre and Mathilde. Drama-long five years and seven months. Rare, but at the same time, such a long-awaited meeting, and sweet are becoming a kind of measure of the time of calculation of the pair. As a result, there were only memories of the old cynic Pierre, and for failing to catch your luck tail or because of fear of change, whether because it was only a fleeting fragment of his life. Who is Bell Hooks essays

Who is Bell Hooks essays Bell Hooks, whose government name is Gloria Watkins is a author, cultural critic, and feminist theorist that hails from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Over the past decade she has written plenty of novels that aroused the souls of many African-Americans. Salvation: black people in love is one of her most recent attempts to educate black people on the importance of love, which she claims is what black people today are missing. I can see that her views are well respected, by all of the positive criticism she receives from people like Maya Angelou and magazines like Essence and the Black Issues Book Review. Moreover, in this novel she makes a lot of claims and most hold to be true. But one significant claim that is made by Hooks is that Tupac Amaru Shakur was and still is a negative influence on young black males today. In this essay I will challenge that claim. I believe that Tupac Amaru Shakur has had a positive influence on young black males today because through his music and writings he w as able to teach young black males to respect people like they would want to be respected, to constantly search for knowledge, and to always have self-esteem. Bell Hooks, as well as the mass media portray to us that black people are not loving, and that our lives are so burdened with violence and aggression that we have no time to love. She involves Tupac Shakur, an influential and revolutionary rapper/activist into this general statement. Due to Tupac and a handful of other rappers, young black men try to take on the image of being hard. Hardness, is usually associated with being nonchalant about life, rebelling against the social structure, and being violently aggressive at times. In the dictionary, hard means tough, unbreakable, and stiff. I feel that Bell Hooks definition of hard means incompetent, devalued and destroyed and that once they learn this way of life, they will ultimately become ...

Cephas Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Cephas - Assignment Example After the man has shown his truck full of food for donation, workers became even more perplexed. The man has decided to help in the way he could, but lack of relevant controls and human factor have caused huge problems. If I were the worker of this centre I would deal with Cephas differently. Probably, I would try to explain to him that his donation was not a good idea because of the gaps in the system and bureaucracy heavily integrated into this system. I would explain to him that the welfare system doesn’t work as it is expected to work and nobody cares about those who are in need. While this behavior would not be appropriate, and the risk of my dismissal would be high, it could serve as an effective trigger for change of the social welfare system. I would do this in order to make the system work how it should be. If there are people who are needy, and there are people who are willing to help and have some capabilities to help, why should the bureaucratic machine and laziness of people prevent this? Nobody knows how many people such as Cephas were willing to help to low-income families, and nobody cares really. The story shows that even though there are welfare programs, they do not work h ow they should. I would recommend to Cephas to declare somehow officially the contribution he has made and ask for some public report about how and to whom the products were distributed. Thus, the head of the department of the welfare centre and other employees would not take part of the products to their homes and would be responsible to plan thoroughly how to distribute the products equally among low-income families and disabled people. This would be a very problematic thing to do; however, it would serve as the first step towards changing the social welfare system. The more people will bring help and donation, the greater control over it will be required. It will be impossible to hide or take to home

Tokyo Midtowns Architecture Development

Tokyo Midtowns Architecture Development The Tokyo Midtown was built between 2004-2007, which is a 101,000 square meter mixed-use development located in Roponggi, Tokyo, Japan. This project design was begun on August 2002 and the construction of the project was begun on May 2004 and completed on March 2007. There is a 400-year-old Hinokicho Park within the site was refurbished. The U.S. Army was stayed in this site as a barrack during World War II, the Japanese Defense Agency occupied this site after the army left. Consequently, Japanese Government sold the site in 2001 and Mitsui Fudosan won it. There was an archaeological exploration conducted during 2002 and 2003. During the exploring period, over fifty thousand pieces of pottery and two pieces of gold coins from Edo-period (1596-1698) were found out. The mixed-use development includes office, residential, retail, hotel, museum and leisure space. The total floor area of the development is 563, 800 square meters. There are over 50% of the project is designed to be open sp ace. Tokyo Midtown is located at two main street roads in roponggi district, there is a large lawn included in the site. Besides the class A office, residential units, High-end retail and hotel, and the museum, there is 50 percentage of site area are parks, plazas, promenades and streetscapes. In Tokyo, green space is only a private garden or scared space. The definition of green space is different from other cities. The green space used to be appreciated rather than utilizing. Citizens are not encouraged to use the green space and public events are not promoted to happen in such area. The primary developer, Mitsui Fudosan would like to change this old mind of green area and bring the new trend of Green Park. Thus, Tokyo Midtown was designed to be the new urban oasis in Roponggi district. Imperial Palace is not only the largest public open space in Tokyo, but also a good case to show the typology of traditional Japanese landscape. The parkland of Imperial Palace is surrounded by the wall, which isolates the palace from the city’s context. The cultural and historical valuable of the palace was abandoned, that the landscape of palace is cut off by the wall as an island, and there is no associated development next to the palace. This kind of traditional landscape promotes privacy and peaceful rather than connection between urban context. The developer would like to introduce a new landscape typology to the city. His approach is to create a unique sequence of open space which is new trend of connective landscape. The project’s developer promotes a new Japanese landscape design by creating a unique urban movement in the complex. The Tokyo Midtown a welcoming and attractive space which can stimulate the social and cultural interaction, thus the life of the place will be activated. This project is an architectural expression in landscape which can provide an open and green space for events. The historical green space Hinokicho Park is part of landscape and was refurbished. There are mainly three primary movements for the landscape in Tokyo Midtown. Firstly, the existing park is extended to the newer green areas. Secondly, there are a series of water features begin at the plaza. Thirdly, the water features flow down toward the greenery. There were 40 mature cherry trees preserved from the old site and transplanted on new site. Those trees are used to create a new cherry promenade by connecting the entry to Hinokicho Park. There are over thousands of visitors attracted to here for gathering and celebrating the cule of seasons, during the blossom season of cherry. In recent years, podium type development becomes the main new typology of large-scale development, especially in Hong Kong. The advantage of this typology is to provide a convenient and efficient connection from the upper level to the mass transit by the footbridge network. However, this typology has been produced less vibrant street life. The functional relationship between building and urban street grid has been lost. The public space has been separated from the existing neighborhood, thus the development has been isolated from urban street. Tokyo Midtown is a successful large-scale development with podium and tower that diminish the drawback of podium design. It undertakes a more sustainable approach to the new large-scale development. The development of Tokyo Midtown has achieved the sustainable design approach by several criteria as below: First of all, the development of Tokyo Midtown took the opportunity to integrate this new development into the existing areas by creating great places which can improve the original district and bring a long-term value. This place-making approach is achieved by promoting the public spaces with landscape. The sense of space is created by adding the attractive street furniture and public art in the landscape, such as the lush mature tree canopy in the entrance. This canopy can emphasize the existing site characteristic and enhance the site’s cultural and historical value. The landscape design improves the flexibility of space, so that public and private events will be promoted in order to facilitate the social interaction and vitality in this place. For example, the cherry promenade provides the linkage to the Hinokicho Park and also a place for gathering and celebrating the beauty of the trees during the bloom season. Thousands of visitors attract by it and go there with a blan ket, picnic, and drinks. The high quality design of Tokyo Midtown activates the existing space and brings economic incomes, and reflects the character of the surrounding area. This mix-used development incorporated hotel, office, residential, retail, restaurants, museum and parks. It provides a small community for people to live, work and enjoy their leisure time. Besides, the Tokyo Midtown introduces the pedestrian connectivity in both physical and psychological way. Visitors can experience a rich and vibrant pedestrian through visiting the tree-lined street and pleasant walkway. The lining of trees refurbishes the existing subway stop and redirects the ground passenger to the new exit at Tokyo Midtown. The place-making approach is also strengthened by providing high-quality public realm. It lets wide range of activities happen in this area. The unique identity landmarks, the 54 storeys Mori Tower has been incoporated in the whole development which is the tallest building in Tokyo. It increases the attractiveness of the destination. Secondly, Tokyo Midtown has well integrated with the infrastructure and the surrounding transport network. It provides a high standard connection to the transit and improves the connection between site and surrounding area at the ground level. Tokyo Midtown is not a project only concern the spatial quality within the site boundary, but also to provide the mix-used development with a wider site context and great impact on surrounding area. Citizens criticize that walled developments issue would be raised as the project with infrastructure is easily being isolated from the urban due to the poor integration of surrounding. This project includes 5 buildings, a high-end retail, luxury department, class A office space, luxury department, medical center. These 5 buildings surround a skyscraper with 248m height. The whole development is well integrated to the adjacent park and the Roppongi railway station. Roppongi railway station is a famous station along the Toei Oedo Line. Tokyo Midtown p rovides a successful access to the exit of railway station through the spatial arrangement of the open space. There is good public transport connection provided. The Roppongi railway station is well connected to the public transport interchanges within the Tokyo Midtown. The site is quite near the Roppongi Hills development which is less than 0.8 kilometer. The Roppongi Hill is surrounded by the vehicle-dominated road infrastructure and connects to podium of Tokyo Midtown. The majority of the edges are connected to the street level, it breaks down the traditional podium language. This project has well integration between land use and the transport in both physical and social aspects. Sustainable strategy Large-scale development usually bring negative impact on surrounding area or the wider context, as developer usually only focus on designing the area within the site, the adjacent area may not be their concern. Tokyo Midtown is a large-scale development which has been well integrated with the surrounding area. The design of this project is base on the sustainable development principles and the urban design guidelines, so that it will keep integrating and sustainable in a long-term period. The resource efficiency and environmental friendly approach is also adopted in development. The floor area of the whole development is concentrated in one quadrant of the site, so that the urban park area can be maximized. There is more than 40 percent of the site area is designed as an urban park which act as a main connection between the site and the community greenbelt. Tokyo Midtown promotes sustainability at the neighborhood and district levels, the spatial quality of the pedestrian environment at the street level is enhanced. As a result, the walkability and the livability within the site area and also the district are gradually improved. The location and proportion of program of the whole development is concerned to improve the sustainability in environmental, social and economic aspect. There are over 150 shops and restaurants offered in the high-end retail area, 500 luxury residential units, several office towers, a Ritz-Carlton hotel, 800-seat conservation center and an art museum provided in development, which can benefit the district in social and economic way. The large green open space which occupies 40 percent of site area can benefit the district in environmental way. The open space is designed to guide visitor walk from surrounding streets and sidewalk to the site. A sense of â€Å"on the ground† is promoted by touching the earth and nature. There are some view corridors, transparent material, bridges and plazas visually open and connect to the open spa ce in order to lead the visitor from the park to the nature. The design of water feature is to lead the visitors to the park and guide them down though meandering pathway to the 21_21 Design Museum and the traditional Japanese Garden. New district ‘s image Before the completion of Tokyo Midtown, Roppongi was a well-known district as a night town. Roponggi was a place which is full of entertainment hub and with abandoned traditional neighborhood. The developer Mitsui Fudosan would like to change the public perception of Roppongi district from a night town to an update image which is a vitalized daytime district. Tokyo Midtown is a development to provide a balance mix of business and living place to the district, in which the cultural amenities will be highly respected. Moreover, Tokyo Midtown is a hope as business and economy revival of Japan, it designed to represent the best characteristic of Japanese society by the mixed-use development. The Japanese government treats it as a priority urban redevelopment area†. This mixed-use development has integrated with a public park , which promotes an environmental friendly and commercial active attraction in this district, thus it benefit to the entire neighborhood and enhance the econom ic value of Roppongi. To match with this large green park, the famed Suntory Museum of Art was relocation. Consequently, the green park, museum, Tokyo National Art Center and Roppongi Hill will be well connected. The community park is merged with the existing greenbelt and connects to those abandoned nearby green space such as the gorunds of Tokyo government cemetery and a Shinto religious shrine.

Pollution Essay: Effects of Global Warming :: Climate Change

An issue that has been stirring up controversy all over the news and in the current presidential debate is global warming. The effects have been seen all over the world and global warming is quickly becoming a major topic of concern. Global warming is the increase of the earth’s temperature. When the earth’s temperature increases, we have a climate change. When this climate change occurs, so do the changes in the sea level, rainfall, wildlife, and this obviously affects humans. (Globalwarming) It is caused by the release of carbon dioxide also known as Co2. Carbon dioxide is released by the use of man made fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and naturals gasses. Co2 traps heat inside the earth’s atmosphere that would usually be in outer space, which causes the Greenhouse Effect. As the earth’s surface heats it becomes too warm to live in and many people, animals and plants will suffer. (EPA) The earth’s temperature naturally changes over the years, but over the last half of century, the record high temperatures drastically increased. Scientists have even warned us that in the last ten years we have had record high temperatures, which means the average temperatures in the United States could increase up to nine degrees. (NDRC) A major result of global warming that I have noticed by living in Florida is that it is making the hurricanes stronger and more treacherous. Every year, Florida gets hit by hurricanes and tropical storms, but during the last five years the damages have really increased. There has been lots of damage done to my home and neighborhood. As a resident of Florida, I have to take more precautions when these storms hit, because I never know how strong they can become. We have had our roof blown off, flood damage and trees falling over in our home. Global warming makes the ocean water warmer, which makes the storms much more powerful. They can easily jump from a category 2 to a category 4 storm. Again, there has been lots of damage done to my home and my neighborhood. (NDRC) Another frightening effect of Global warming is the rising of the sea levels. Scientists have discovered that this could eventually lead to coastal flooding. Areas in the United States that could be heavily affected are all of the eastern sea board, areas of Gulf of Mexico, and almost all of Florida.

Modernism and Ball Turret Gunner Essay

In this poem it says at the start everything is gold or perfect then it goes away in the end which has loss of faith. It is rejecting Eden as a hero and who is flawed. â€Å"The Life You Save May Be Your Own† is modernism because a guy shows up, asks for work, takes the truck, and leaves the blind girl he married at a restaurant. This shows how a human mind can work in an evil way. He took the old ladies blind daughter that has never left home before and she loves her daughter and never wanted her to leave home but the strange man took her and left her all by herself. There is no hero in this story. The old lady didn’t do much to be a hero and neither did the blind girl. The strange man was the opposite of a hero, was greedy, and selfish by taking the car and leaving after he repaired it. â€Å" The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner† is a contemporary work because it comments on itself by saying, â€Å"When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hoses†. This poem has multiple meanings. One meaning is that he is in his mom’s stomach. The second meaning is him in the ball turret of a B-17 airplane. This is very personal. He got killed fighting for his country and they sprayed him out with a hose and didn’t give him the proper burial and respect. Night is also a contemporary work because it is very personal. He was put in a death camp for many years treated like crap because he was jewish. They barely fed the prisoners so they starved and died. They would also kill them with gas and work them to death. He talks about the past with no fear so everyone knows what happened in the past. The whole story is commenting on itself by explaining what happened at those death camps. Some of these stories and poems are modernist and contemporary works. Whether is in our past or present its still important. The works have many meanings and people enjoy reading them for the meaning of it not just to be entertained by the story but the true meaning of it. Poems and short stories have made a big impact in education and the way society is. Many people love poems and short stories but other people can hate them. I don’t like them my self but they still are important in education and for our future world.

John Steinbeck. the Pearl. Fragment Analisys - 1603 Words

Vera Kemzane Group 4B The text analysis â€Å"The Pearl† by John Steinbeck. The present extract is from the novel â€Å"The Pearl† written by American author John Steinbeck. The novel is about Kino, who is a pearl diver and main theme is man`s nature, both evil and good, greed and honest. The extract refers to the part of the novel, when Kino discovers an enormous pearl or â€Å"the Pearl of the World†. The register of the text is fictional narrative, and type of narration is heterodiegetic, because the narrator situated outside the level of action. The text is with omniscient point of view, or zero focalization – the narrator knows more than characters. The authorial narrative allows the narrator to have an insight into the thoughts and feelings†¦show more content†¦Mostly, the narrator use verbs of motion to emphasize on how quick and fast the news are, and how they spread over the town and how they reached the citizens. The word â€Å"pearl† obviously is a key word in the extract, it is repeated several time, but it is interesting the way the narrator uses capitalization and small letter for this word. When the narrator speaks about Kino and the pearl, he use the capital letter: Kino had found the Pearl of the World. With capitalization, he wants to emphasize the importance of this pearl to Kino, because he treats it like something alive and extremely beautiful, but already in the end there is sentence: Kino held the great pearl in his hand, and it was warm and alive in his hand. No capitalization used in this sentence, may be because exactly in this sentence, the narrator reveals, that according to Kino the pearl is great, warm and alive, so no other emphasize needed. Small letter used for the word â€Å"pearl† when speaking about the other characters, like priest: He wondered what the pearl would be worth. Two men, buyers: In the town, in little offices, sat the men who bought pearls from the fishers. And all other men: Every man suddenly became related to Kino`s pearl. Evidently, for all of them the pearl is just a product for sale, investment, so there is no use to emphasize on its beauty. To show the reader how different Kino and citizens treats the pearl, the narrator uses different semantic fields.
